We love asparagus and planted it early on in the backyard farming project. Planting asparagus is like planting a tree in that you don't have to plant new seeds every year. You chop off the stalk when it's ready for harvest. Next year, it will grow back.

See that light colored nub poking out of the soil? |

Beautiful first asparagus! |
 |
We also harvested some artichokes, carrots and
radishes to pair with the asparagus. |
 |
We steamed the artichokes and simply sliced
the raw, fresh asparagus, carrot and radish.
Makes a great appetizer.
Oh! We know it might sound weird to eat asparagus raw, but when it comes
straight out of the ground, it tastes different and BETTER than cooking store bought. |
